World of Warcraft Hunter Guide
This World of Warcraft Hunter Guide will give you an overview of the Hunter class, what its capabilities are, what drawbacks you should expect, and how to function in the class.
1.) Understanding the Class
Hunters are strong characters when in a group or when playing solo in World of Warcraft. One of the first things you may notice about a Hunter is that they can be kitted in chain armor. You’ll also notice that they have a Survival skill tree. Don’t assume that this makes them tanks however, they are not indestructible. Make sure you use Hunters according to their strengths which are their pets and their long range weapons.
2.) What Race Should I Pick?
If you’re on the Alliance side I recommend using Night Elves or Dwarves as Hunters. For Horde, Orc’s Troll’s, Tauren, and Blood Elves work well. Each race has its own unique set of strengths and each has the potential to be a great Hunter.
To start with you need to pick whether you’re going to side with Horde of Alliance. Next you might find it useful to spend a little time studying the perks each race has when they are Hunters. One thing I will note is that regardless of your race, if you have a good knowledge of the Hunter and how to use it, you will do well in the End Game.
3.) Leveling Up your Hunter
Leveling as a Hunter in WoW is probably easier overall than any other class. Use you pet to its full potential and let it die for you if need to. Keep in mind that you can always heal your pet and even resurrect it if need be. If things get too serious, leave your pet fighting and run in the other direction.
Take the time to learn about you abilities. Hunters can use traps for crowd control, heal and resurrect pets, go after multiple targets and so much more. It’s well worth the effort to learn what Hunters abilities are and how to use them.
4.) Pet Selection
Being a Hunter you’ll be able to tame animals. Its worth remembering that you pet will have a skill tree and acquire experience points as they go along. These points can be spent on enhancing abilities. You should also check to see the foods that your potential pet eats and make sure you have enough on hand. To do this go into the animals character sheet and move the mouse over the happiness symbol.
By keeping you pets happiness symbol green you ensure that it’s at its fighting best. When it changes to yellow it’s time to feed it.
5.) Talents
Hunters have 3 talent trees.
Beast Mastery - The talents in this tree are focused on you and your pet. The skills in this tree make you and your pet stronger, tougher, and harder to kill.
Marksmanship - Focusing on this tree will help with your DPS output. You can significantly increase your DPS output if you work at this tree.
Survival - This tree will help you with crowd control more than anything else.
Make sure you choose a tree that’s going to be most effective for you and your style of play. Solo players will get most benefit from Beast Mastery, those who like playing PvP might find Marksmanship most useful. Survival is the least useful in my opinion. It may work well for up close combat but if this is your playing style then another class will probably be best.
The Hunter is a great all around class but they are in my humble opinion the masters of solo play. They make excellent characters to use as gatherers but if equipped, specced, and played well they can function quite well in any situation.
